  • Mavericks first production at the Billesley Pub, Birmingham. The acclaimed version of Willy Russell's 'Educating Rita', with Denise Gilfoyle and Ian Booker, directed by Nick Hennegan.

BELOW: Robert Stanston was the first actor to perform in 'Henry V - Lion of England' in the tiny Hexagon Theatre at the mac in Birmingham. The success there led to the Buxton Fringe and Edinburgh Festival in 1992.  Written and directed by Nick Hennegan, the performance, critical acclaim and fringe experience was one of the main motivating forces behind the creation of the Maverick Theatre Company two years later.

Henry V - Lion of England spent the summer at the Waterside Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1995.  Below at the 'Maverick Cottage' in Old Town is (l to r) Writer and Director Nick Hennegan, Producer, the late Ray Rosenberg and Musician Robb Williams - all wearing corporate Henry t-shirts!

A production shot of Milly, Justyn and Gareth, the young cast of Maverick's first short film, 'Boy, Girl, Boy, Bike' written and directed by Nick Hennegan - 1998. It was selected for exhibition in the New British Expo at the Edinburgh Film Festival the same year and will soon be available to buy.

The star of our show is a vase!
Our pioneering rehearsed reading, '189 pieces' is a       fascinating and dramatic celebration of the extraordinary and  significant 2000 year history of one of the most celebrated and important artifacts at The British Museum.

This quirky, fast-paced and witty piece gives us an insight in to the life of The Vase, the places it has been and the characters it has encountered throughout two millennia of its existence, as well as a few words from The Vase herself!

The performance was developed and directed by Maverick's Associate Director, Katie Merritt.
